SkinTrack is a device developed by researchers at Future Interfaces Group at Carnegie Mellon University. It’s a watch that essentially turns the wearer’s arm into a touchscreen. The device uses the electricity inside the human body in order to determine what action to perform. The system uses the electricity to extrapolate the finger’s position on the arm. The researchers say that, as more and more people use the system, the touchscreen will get increasingly accurate.
CANADIAN OIL ENDANGERED BY FIRE
The fire at Fort McMurray has displaced thousands of people, burned countless homes and many more square miles of land. Over 1,000 firefighters are currently battling the inferno. However, real estate is not the only casualty of this natural disaster. Royal Dutch Shell, an oil producer has been forced to shut down its operations in that area. Nearly 1 million barrels are in danger of being taken out of productivity. While the Albanian Sands operations center that Royal Dutch Shell shut down was not close to Fort McMurray, they closed it in order to focus the effort on getting families out of the city.
HIRING SLOWS IN APRIL
The Labor Department’s latest job report defied predictions. Goldman Sachs projected close to a quarter of a million jobs, while most economists predicted 197,000. However, the U.S. labor market came out with a stunning 160,000 hirings. While the unemployment rate remained at the fabled 5%, this slowing in hiring is yet another indication of how the economy is under performing. With the election coming up, and the economy being the number 1 worry on voters’ minds, how the candidates propose to deal with the economy will be crucial.
