Last year, Brock Turner was arrested and charged with the rape of a victim who has chosen to remain anonymous. He was convicted in March of intent to rape an intoxicated person. After the ruling, protests erupted. Many believe that the six month penalty is far too lenient for the former Stanford swimmer. The sentencing was followed by the release of two letters written to the judge. The first was from the victim, detailing her experience, explaining her despair, and pleading that the judge not be lenient. The second was from Turner’s father, dismissing the rape as “20 minutes of action”, arguing that his son is no longer the same, and pleading for leniency.
