DOJ TO END PRISON PRIVATIZATION

Private prisons have become increasingly common throughout the United States, and it is something that the Department of Justice wishes to correct. A thorough review of the conditions inside private prisons revealed that, on average, they did not hold up to the standards of a governmental prison. Deputy Attorney General Sally Yates said that private prisons did not offer the same level of rehabilitation and did not provide the same level of security. Studies showed that 15% of the inmate population in 2013 was housed in private prisons. However, the DOJ plans to cut that number to 0%.
