RAIDERS TO STAY IN OAKLAND, WITHDRAW REQUEST TO MOVE TO LA

The Oakland Raiders have withdrawn their request to move the team to Los Angeles. A group of owners from the National Football League (NFL) backed the relocation of two other teams - the Rams and the Chargers to LA. The Raiders will receive $100 mn from the league for not opting for the relocation according to NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell. There is no clarity on whether Raiders and Oakland officials will resume work towards a new stadium.

STATE OF THE UNION: OBAMA SELLS OPTIMISM TO A NERVOUS NATION

In his final State of the Union address, U.S. President Barack Obama urged Americans to reject the political gridlock plaguing the nation. Without naming any of the Republican candidates Obama said the political system was in the grips of the rich and the powerful. The President acknowledged that Americans are anxious about the future thanks to the controversy over immigration and economic uncertainty. Obama claimed credit in his speech for creating 14 mn new jobs and reducing the unemployment rate.

CHILDREN'S COUGH SYRUP RECALLED

A popular children's cough syrup sold under a variety of brand names is being pulled off the shelves by many retailers across the country due to risk of overdose. The syrup's manufacturer, Perrigo Company, has voluntarily recalled two batches of children's guaifenesin grape liquid (100mg/5 mL) and three batches of children's guaifenesin DM cherry liquid (100mg guaifenesin and 5mg dextromethorphan HBr/ 5 ml) sold in 4-ounce bottles. The recall was initiated after it was revealed some packages contained an oral dosage cup with the wrong dosage. However the company has said using these products according to labelled instructions, with the wrong dosage cup, is unlikely to end in serious complications.

FRIENDS REUNION COMING TO NBC

And finally...in some Entertainment news...one of TV's most beloved sitcom Friends is making a comeback this February. Twelve years after it went off the air, the cast of Friends will reunite on NBC for a 2-hour special. NBC hopes all the six stars will appear together. However it might not be possible to get everyone together thanks to logistic issues. The special episode will honor Director James Burrows who has directed 15 episodes of Friends and has been directing sitcoms for almost 40 years.
