UBER SLAPPED WITH A $7.6 MN CPUC FINE FOR CONTEMPT & NON-COMPLIANCE

The California Public Utilities Commission (CPU) has voted to fine Uber $7.6 mn or face a 30-day suspension of service in California. The regulatory board held the ride-sharing service in contempt for not providing availability, safety and accessibility information. Uber's reporting obligations include accessibility information, number of rides requested, amounts paid by zip code and driver safety information. The agency uses the data to analyze the impact of companies like Lyft and Uber on transportation and safety conditions across the state. Uber will appeal the decision.

DELHI'S ANTI-POLLUTION CAR RATIONING ENDS

Delhi is ending a two-week trial that imposed major restrictions on private cars to curb high levels of air pollution. Private cars with even and odd number plates were only allowed on alternate days during the experiment. However there is no clarity on whether the experiment helped in cutting down pollution levels. The government will hold a review meeting on Monday to debate whether the measures can be enforced in a second phase. 1,400 new cars hit Delhi's streets every day.

FRENCH DRUG TRIAL DISASTER LEAVES ONE BRAIN DEAD & 5 INJURED

One person has been left brain dead and five others have been hospitalized after taking part in a clinical trial in France. The trial was being conducted by an Portuguese drug company. The drug trial aimed at tackling mood and anxiety issues as well as movement coordination disorders linked to neurological issues. In total 90 people took part in the trial. Prosecutors have opened an investigation into the case.

RANBIR AND KATRINA CALL IT QUITS: REPORTS

In some Entertainment news...multiple news reports suggest that Bollywood's golden couple Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif have broken up over irreconcilable differences. For the last few months there has been a lot of tension between the couple mainly due to Ranbir's proximity to ex-flame Deepika Padukone during the promotions of Tamasha. Reports also hint that Ranbir's family was staunchly opposed to the alliance especially his mother Neetu Kapoor. Ranbir has moved out of their joint flat and will reportedly start living with his parents again.
