SAN JOSE BACK IN THE RUNNING FOR A HIGH-SPEED RAIL LINK

Officials in California are reconsidering a 2012 decision to build the first segment of a high-speed rail network from Burbank north into the Central Valley. Officials are studying the possibility of bringing the first stretch of track north to San Jose instead. The alternative being examined would run from Silicon Valley to Bakersfield and be less expensive than the current proposal since it would not involve tunneling costs. The first phase of construction started in Fresno in July; two-and-a-half years behind schedule. The outcome of the new evaluation will be known in the coming weeks, when the state unveils its 2016 business plan.

EAST COAST TRIES TO SPRING BACK TO NORMALCY

The U.S. East Coast is trying to restore some normalcy after near-record snowfall forced road closures, shutdown of major public transportation, businesses, schools and government offices. There were more than 31 weather-related deaths reported across 12 states and the District of Columbia in the wake of the blizzard over the weekend. 26.8 inches of snow fell in New York City while Baltimore hit a new high record high of 29.2 inches of snow. A travel ban barring non-emergency vehicles from New York City roads was lifted yesterday morning.

SUPER BOWL 50: BRONCOS & PANTHERS ADVANCE

In some sports news...A late attack by the Denver Broncos defense, helped them defeat the New England Patriots 20-18 in the AFC Championship Game yesterday. The Broncos will face the Carolina Panthers, who defeated the Arizona Cardinals 49-15 in the NFC Championship Game. The Patriots scored with 12 seconds remaining but couldn't make good on the two-point conversion to force an overtime. This will be Peyton Manning's fourth Super Bowl appearance. There is widespread speculation that this season could be 39-year-old Manning's last appearance.

DHANUSH TO STAR IN A HOLLYWOOD FILM WITH UMA THURMAN

In some Entertainment News...Tamil & Hindi actor Dhanush is set to make his Hollywood debut with Uma Thurman. Dhanush is the lead hero in The Extraordinary Journey Of The Fakir Who Got Trapped In An Ikea Cupboard to be helmed by an Iranian-French Director. The actor will reportedly play a conjurer from a forgotten Indian colony of artists, who is sent to Paris on a secret mission by his mother. In a statement to the media Dhanush has confirmed the news.
