GOOGLE EYES EXPANSION IN ALAMEDA

According to a report in The Bay Area News Group, Google is looking at leasing a third building in Alameda for office space. The tech giant has a three-year stint leasing at the Alameda Naval Air Station and holds first rights for negotiating to buy the site outright. Google will use the space for R&D, engineering, offices and manufacturing. Under the terms of the four-year lease, Google will pay a monthly base rent between $26,160 and $34,008. The proposal will be considered by The Alameda City Council this week.

PATHANKOT TERROR ATTACK KILLS 7

In some news from India...Over the weekend...a group of heavily armed terrorists attacked Pathankot Air Force Station, part of the Western Air Command of the Indian Air Force. The attack in Punjab has killed 7 military personnel and wounded 22. Six of the attackers have been eliminated. The gunmen were disguised in uniform and hijacked an Indian police officer's car. The United Jihad Council has claimed responsibility for the attack on 4 January. Security experts believe missed clues and lax security led to the attack. The Air Force station is situated 25 km from the border with Pakistan.

STRONG EARTHQUAKE IN NORTHEASTERN INDIA KILLS 8; INJURES 100

At least 8 people have been killed and 100 injured in Manipur after a 6.7 magnitude earthquake hit northeastern India early today morning. According to the Indian Meteorological Department, the epicenter was in Tamenglong district, in Manipur. Tremors were felt in Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal apart from all the northeastern states. The tremors left large cracks in walls and a portion of a popular market building collapsed in the state capital. India’s seven northeastern states are located in an area of frequent seismic activity.

4 NEW ELEMENTS ADDED TO THE PERIODIC TABLE

Four new elements have been added to the periodic table, finally completing the table’s seventh row. The new super-heavy chemical elements discovered by scientists in Russia, America and Japan has been verified by experts and formally added to the table. The new elements have been temporarily named as ununtrium, ununpentium, ununseptium and ununoctium. The new elements are the first to be added to the table since 2011.
