POWERFUL EL NINO STORM BRINGS RAIN TO THE BAY AREA

An El Nino-powered storm hit the Bay Area today with the region receiving more than 3-quarters of an inch of rainfall. Most of the rainfall was concentrated between the 4-7 a.m. time band. The storm triggered traffic on the roads, toppled trees and power outages across the region. A stronger storm will arrive tomorrow morning. A Flash Flood Watch has been issued for areas in the Valley Fire, Rocky Fire, and Jerusalem Fire burn areas until 10 p.m. tonight. The Bay Area will continue to witness rainy weather until Friday.

OBAMA DETAILS EXECUTIVE ACTION TO CURB GUN VIOLENCE

President Obama today unveiled several measures intended to advance his gun safety agenda. A teary-eyed Obama said he could not wait for an end to the political deadlock to reduce gun violence. Among the new measures include a clarification on an existing law that requires almost anyone who sells guns for a living to register as a firearms dealer and conduct background checks on clients. The President is also proposing new investments for mental health access, research into gun safety technology and additional Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) agents and investigators. The Congress will have to approve the funding. Republicans have criticized the President and termed the new moves as an abuse of authority.

PATHANKOT ATTACK: GURDASPUR SP UNDER THE SCANNER

In the latest on the Pathankot terror attack, investigating agencies are examining the role of Gurdaspur SP Salwinder Singh. Singh could probably be working with the Pakistani Intelligence wing ISI and the terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammed. Singh was initially credited for alerting the Indian authorities about the attack. According to a CNN-IBN report, investigations reveal that Singh might have provided logistical support to the terrorists. Singh claims he was abducted by terrorists two nights before the attack on the Indian Air Force base and was dumped later.

INDIAN SCHOOLBOY SMASHES RECORDS TO SCORE 1000 RUNS IN A SINGLE INNINGS

An Indian schoolboy has become the first cricketer in history to score 1,000 runs in a single innings. 15-year-old Pranav Dhanawade managed this feat during the Bhandari Cup, an under-16 inter-school event organised by the Mumbai Cricket Association. Dhanawade hit 59 sixes and 129 fours in the epic innings that lasted 395 minutes and 323 balls. He was unbeaten on 1,009 and helped his team declare at a astonishing score of 1465/3; another world record.
