INTERNET WANTS TO OUST TURNER JUDGE
Brock Turner, former Stanford swimmer, was sentenced by Judge Aaron Persky to six months in prison for his rape of an unconscious woman. The decision elicited anger and protests throughout social media. In response to it, online activists have circulated a petition to remove the judge from the case. In fact, there are several petitions, all of which have a total signature count of 800,000. However, there are doubts as to the weight behind these petitions. Typically, online activism means little, as many people sign just for the purpose of declaring themselves a “social justice warrior”. It’s tough to determine whether this petition against Judge Persky carries weight.
