BAN ON ‘UDTA PUNJAB’ LIFTED
Indian cinema faced some controversy recently over the release of a new movie. Udta Punjab depicts the ubiquitous drug culture in the state of Punjab and was banned on the grounds that it did not portray the state in a positive light. However, on June 13, in the wake of an HC review of the Udta Punjab script, the Board decided that it had been too restrictive in its decisions and decided to allow a screening of the movie. A Punjabi NGO challenged the decision, pushing for the Supreme Court to reinstate the ban. The apex court gave the NGO some time to bring evidence that proves they should keep Udta Punjab out of theaters.
