STOCKS CLOSE LOWER AS OIL PRICES TUMBLE TO $43
The broad U.S. stock market, which ended last week at a record high, fell Monday as markets pulled back at the start of the week that features a big batch of corporate earnings results, a key meeting on interest rates and a barrage of fresh economic data.The Dow Jones industrial average fell 78 points, or 0.4%, to 18,493. The broader Standard & Poor's 500 stock index -- which closed Friday at an all-time high of 2175.03 -- was 0.3% lower to 2168. The technology-stock dominated Nasdaq composite dropped 0.1% to 5098.Energy stocks led the market lower as oil prices tumbled. U.S. benchmark crude fell $1.06, or 2.4%, to close at $43.13 a barrel.
