COOLING CENTERS AND OTHER RESOURCES DURING BAY AREA HEAT WAVE

As temperatures soar into the 90s and 100s across the Bay Area, people may be looking for places to cool off as well as other resources during extreme heat. With a heat advisory in effect until midnight Thursday, various Bay Area cities and counties are offering cooling centers and other services to help residents escape the sweltering weather. The changing climate means Alameda County residents can expect more extreme heat waves.

Extreme heat waves can increase the risk of heat-related illnesses, such as heat stroke, exhaustion, and dehydration. Warmer temperatures create more pollen in the air, stronger airborne allergens, and more allergy symptoms. Certain populations such as the elderly, children, people with disabilities and those living alone are at a higher risk during heat events.
