GERMAN INFLATION EASES TO 3.1% IN JANUARY

Preliminary data from the federal statistics office revealed that German inflation eased slightly more than anticipated in January, reaching 3.1%. This moderation was attributed to a decline in energy prices.

In December, German consumer prices, harmonized for comparison with other European Union countries, had recorded a year-on-year increase of 3.8%. Economists closely monitor such figures, as Germany and France release their data ahead of anticipated euro zone inflation statistics, scheduled for Thursday. French data indicated that EU-harmonized inflation decreased to 3.4% in January from 4.1% in December.
