The government has projected wheat procurement to be between 300-320 lakh tonnes during the Rabi Marketing Season, which begins on March 1st. This estimate comes in light of expectations of a bumper winter crop this year. Compared to the quantity procured last year, this projection represents a substantial increase of around 23%. The government believes that this procurement will be sufficient to meet food security requirements and allow for future market interventions.
The food ministry arrived at this estimate after extensive discussions with state food secretaries. Additionally, the government's estimation of wheat production for this year stands at around 1,110 lakh tonnes, slightly lower than the previous estimate.
