Hurricane Lee rapidly strengthened to a Category 5 storm Thursday night, with wind speeds doubling in less than 36 hours. Lee quickly became a Category 5 storm with maximum sustained winds of 160 mph as it moved west-northwest at 14 mph about 705 miles east of the Northern Leeward Islands Thursday, according to the latest update from the National Hurricane Center in Miami.
