MAHARASHTRA CABINET APPROVES RENAMING OF AHMEDNAGAR TO AHILYANAGAR
The state cabinet's decision on Wednesday marked the approval of renaming Ahmednagar city and district to Ahilyanagar, making it the third city in Maharashtra to undergo a name change in the past two years. Previously, in June 2022, under the leadership of Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, the cabinet had approved the renaming of Aurangabad to Sambhaji Nagar and Osmanabad city to Dharashiv.
These renaming decisions have been significant, addressing long-standing demands and reflecting shifts in political dynamics. The renaming of cities has occurred amid pressure on the party, particularly concerning accusations of compromising with its core ideology of Hindutva, notably raised by rebel MLAs led by current Chief Minister Eknath Shinde.
