California's iconic piers, which have stood along the Pacific coast since the Gold Rush era, are facing increasing challenges from more frequent storms, rising sea levels, and massive waves. These environmental factors are posing the most significant threat yet to these beloved beach landmarks, which have become an essential part of the state's landscape.
Due to repeated damage from storms, at least six public piers have been forced to close. The state has experienced multiple atmospheric rivers over the past year, exacerbating the situation. As a result, repair costs for these piers have soared into the millions of dollars.
