Neeraj Chopra, India's reigning Olympic champion in javelin throw, is making strategic moves in his training regime ahead of the athletics season. He has opted to relocate his training base from Potchefstroom, South Africa, to Antalya, Turkey, in preparation for upcoming competitions, including the Diamond League events in Doha or Rabat. Neeraj will begin his training stint at the Gloria Sports Arena in Antalya during the first week of March, where he will spend 79 days until the end of May. Accompanying him will be his coach, Dr. Klaus Bartonietz, and physio Ishaan Marwaha.
This decision was approved during the 124th meeting of the Mission Olympic Cell (MOC). Neeraj had been training at the North-West University in Potchefstroom since December 5 as part of his preparations for the Paris Olympic Games. He will conclude his training there by the end of February before making the transition to Europe. In the previous athletics season, Neeraj achieved significant milestones, including winning the world championship and successfully defending his Asian Games title. He also secured a second-place finish at the Diamond League Finals, demonstrating his consistent prowess in the sport.
