PRELIMINARY 2.7 MAGNITUDE QUAKE JOLTS FOOTHILLS EAST OF SAN JOSE

A preliminary 2.7 magnitude earthquake struck near San Jose Friday afternoon, according to the United States Geological Survey. The quake hit at 2:11 p.m. and was centered 4.4 miles east of Foothills, 5.1 miles from Alum Rock and 9.2 miles from San Jose, the USGS said.
