SF COLLEGE STUDENTS DESIGN AND CONSTRUCT DOZENS OF BEDS FOR HOMELESS STUDENTS AND FAMILIES

At Buena Vista Horace Mann K-8 Community School in San Francisco's Mission District, the daily routine includes a unique twist. Each evening at 7 p.m., staff members from Delores Street Community Services arrive to transform the school's gymnasium and auditorium into a shelter for homeless families. They set up mattresses and partitions to provide a degree of privacy for the families staying there.

Despite the additional challenges this presents, students at the school have found a way to make a positive impact. By forging meaningful connections with the families in the shelter and actively addressing their feedback and suggestions, they have been able to create a supportive environment for those in need. This demonstrates the resilience and compassion of both the school community and the wider San Francisco community in addressing homelessness and supporting vulnerable populations.
