U.S. LABOR MARKET WITNESSES STEADY HIRING IN DECEMBER

U.S. stocks gave up early gains to finish deep in the red, posting their worst opening week in history. The U.S. economy 292,000 new jobs in December and the unemployment rate held steady at 5%, according to new government data. In all, the nation added 2.65 mn jobs in 2015, the second-best year for hiring since 1999. the average hourly wage in December fell by a penny, to $25.24. In December, job creation was strong in construction and health care.

WORLD BANK DOWNGRADES GLOBAL GROWTH IN 2016

The World Bank has sharply lowered its global growth forecast for 2016. The World Bank has predicted that emerging markets will struggle amid China's slowdown and a sharp decline in commodity prices. The global economy is expected to grow 2.9% this year. The new forecast is an improvement from the estimated growth of 2.4% in 2015 but down from its 3.3% forecast in June. The U.S. economy is expected to grow 2.7% this year following a 2.5% growth in 2015.

YAHOO RECONSIDERS SALE OF CORE INTERNET BUSINESS

Yahoo is reconsidering the option of selling its Internet business rather than spinning it out into a separate company, according to a Bloomberg report. The web portal is yet to approach prospective buyers and has not hired an investment bank. The company has been struggling to revive its growth after failing to react quickly to the rise of mobile and social networking.

APPLE REPORTEDLY WORKING ON WIRELESS EARBUDS FOR iPHONE 7

Tech publication 9to5Mac is reporting that Apple is working on a premium set of entirely wireless earbuds — under the Beats brand. The wireless earbuds could debut alongside the iPhone 7 later this year. Apple's earbuds are said to have a noise-cancelling microphone system which will allow users to interact with the iPhone and control Siri completely wireless. The premium headphones will be an optional purchase and won't come with the iPhone 7.
