ISIS CLAIMS RESPONSIBILITY FOR BRUSSELS BOMBING

Infamous terror group ISIS has claimed responsibility for yet another attack on European soil. Bombings in the Belgian capital of Brussels killed at least 30 people and injured about 230 more. These attacks against Belgium, while shocking, do not come as a surprise. The European country has been actively involved in pursuing terrorist threats related to the Paris attacks of November 2015. Most recently, Belgian police captured a suspect in those attacks, Salah Abdeslam. Belgian national team soccer captain Vincent Kompany tweeted that he was horrified by the attacks, but encouraged Brussels to fight against the urge to hit back with violence.

CANDIDATES MAKE CLOSING ARGUMENTS BEFORE WESTERN PRIMARIES

On Monday night, the remaining candidates made their closing arguments on a range of issues in interviews with CNN. These interviews came on the same day that President Obama visited Cuba, the first time in 90 years a sitting president has visited the island. Republican frontrunner Donald Trump focused on NATO, saying that the United States was paying too much money to assure the security of its allies. Hillary Clinton amped up the attacks on Donald Trump’s character, saying that he is not fit to be commander in chief.

OBAMA WANTS CHANGE IN CUBA

The last time a sitting president visited Cuba was in 1959. Yesterday, President Obama made history through his visit to the island nation. In a speech, he emphasized the need for change and freedom. Obama went on to say that it is time to lift the embargo, but even if they lifted the embargo, change would not come if the Cuban people were not willing to accept it. He says that Cubans need to “recognize their potential”.

FORMER TORONTO MAYOR ROB FORD DIES

Rob Ford, former mayor of Toronto, lost the battle with an aggressive form of cancer on Tuesday, according to his Chief of Staff, Dan Jacobs. Ford became infamous after a 2013 video surfaced that showed him using cocaine. He was popular among the working class, the result of a “bombastic and larger-than-life personality”. In his campaign, he portrayed himself as someone who would cut the size of government.
