In the 23rd match of the Indian Premier League, the Delhi Daredevils, led by a daredevil, hurricane knock from Chris Morris threatened to register an astonishing victory over Gujarat Lions in Delhi today but in a heartbreaking finish to the contest they ended up losing by one run. Put in to bat first, the Gujarat Lions managed a respectable total of 172 of 6 off their 20 overs. Openers Dwayne Smith and Brendon McCullum gave them a fabulous start, putting on 112 off just 10 overs and four balls. However disaster struck them after that, losing wickets all the way as they finally made it to only 172 after looking like they would go well past 200. The Delhi Daredevils lost four wickets before they got to 60 but thereafter it was the Chris Morris show as he blazed away, playing a coruscating knock of 82 not out off 32 balls, with 8 sixes. But just when it looked like he was taking his team to a breathtaking win, Praveen Kumar, yes the hero of India's victory in the 2008 ODI series in Australia, turned up to be the star for Gujarat Lions today as he delivered a masterly spell of 4 overs for just 13 runs, including giving away only four runs off the 19th over of the match. On any other day, Praveen Kumar's heroic spell would have got him the Man of the Match of the award but Chris Morris's spectacular 82 not out off 32 balls swayed the decision towards him, though Chris Morris would have gladly given it away for a victory for his team.
