IPL 2016: SEASON 9

A dream spell of bowling from West Indies's T20 World Cup hero Andre Russell helped Kolkata Knight Riders to a narrow 7-run win over Kings XI Punjab in the 32nd match of the Indian Premier League tournament in Kolkata today. Batting first after being asked to by Kings XI Punjab, the Kolkata Knight Riders openers Robin Uthappa and Gautam Gambhir added 101 off 14 overs but the latter was slow in getting to 54 off 45 balls. They had to be content with 164 for three wickets, not a great total in these days of bigger bats and shorter boundaries. However the Kings XI Punjab had a disastrous start to their innings, with two of their top three batsmen making ducks, and the batsmen at the crease hardly able to come up with any counter punches. Glenn Maxwell dealt in some hefty blows, making 68 off 42 balls with six fours and four sixes but the rest of the batsmen did nothing of note, and with wickets crashing in the last over of the innings, Kings XI suffered the humiliation of a seven-run defeat. Andre Russell took crucial wickets at the start of the innings as well as towards the end to finish with impressive figures of 4 for 20 off his four overs to bag the Man of the Match award.
