The threat of Zika has become more real throughout the United States. After the mosquito borne illness conquered a large part of South America, it began spreading upwards, and health officials are doing their utmost to ensure that it does not become a significant threat in the United States. In an effort to aid the fight against Zika, Microsoft designed a mosquito trap that would not only trap the mosquito, but provide data about when the mosquito got caught in the trap and expedite the identification of any mosquito borne-illnesses. If a Zika-carrying mosquito gets caught in the trap, a notification will be sent to Harris County’s medical office.
