IS THE ECONOMY RIGGED?

A rigged economy has become one of the largest talking points on the 2016 campaign trail. Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders started the discussion, and it has been picked up by each of the parties’ respective nominees. Donald Trump uses that term to the letter, and Hillary Clinton references her desire to help “those left behind”. When a poll was conducted by Marketplace and Edison Research, it found that 71% of Americans believe that the economy displays a systematic bias towards a certain group. There is significant evidence backing this up. Once adjusted for inflation, the median income of a middle class family now is the same as it was back in 1996, meaning that for 20 years, wages have not increased for middle class workers.
