The league was rocked on Monday by Kevin Durant’s decision to sign with the Golden State Warriors. Some lauded the decision while many criticized the former Thunder superstar for employing an “if you can’t beat them, join them” mentality”. However, now that the fervor over Durant’s decision has died down slightly, it’s time to analyze how exactly the Warriors and KD can make this work. Durant’s arrival in Oakland came at the price of sending Harrison Barnes and Andrew Bogut to the Dallas Mavericks, stripping the Warriors of significant defensive presence. Their main on the ball defender and shot blocker now comes in the form of Draymond Green, who emphasized in a Facebook post the defensive capabilities of the Warriors’ newest signing. However, Kevin Durant has always had the mentality of outscoring his man, a strategy which may not prove effective for a team whose offense is by far the most potent in the league.
