THE END OF AN ERA

When I woke up and saw posts thanking Tim Duncan for an amazing career, it took a while to sink in. The announcement came as a complete shock because there was no forewarning, no buildup, as there was with Kobe Bryant. That’s because that is what Tim Duncan represents. In a league filled with showboaters and flash, Tim Duncan represented fundamentals, keeping your head down, and plying your craft to the very best of your ability. And that is exactly what he has done. After 19 seasons in the NBA, 15 of those as an All-Star, the San Antonio Spur is going out as the best power forward of all time. This is no exaggeration. Through 19 seasons, Duncan averaged 19 points, 10.8 rebounds and 2.2 blocks per game. However, those stats belie his true impact on the Spurs. ESPN’s Real Plus-Minus rated him the second best defender of all time. Thank you for the years, Tim.
