A CALL FOR PEACE

The funeral for Falcon Heights shooting victim Philando Castile is taking place later Thursday, but mourners have already started gathering outside the cathedral. Castile’s mother has said that she hopes people send prayers for peace during the service. The theme of peace seems to be one that is ubiquitous throughout major events this week. Cameron Sterling, son of Alton Sterling, the man shot in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, will be meeting with President Barack Obama to ask about race and policing policies. While no one knows what Sterling will ask, he did make one thing very clear: "Everyone needs to protest in the right way -- with peace, not violence," he said. "No violence whatsoever." The Wednesday night ESPY awards sent an even clearer message that something needs to change, that we are participating in a broken system. NBA stars Lebron James, Dwyane Wade, Chris Paul and Carmelo Anthony opened the show calling for peace and for reflection. On the note of change, Lebron James said this, among other things: “We all have to do better."
