GINGRICH: SHARIA LAW NOT COMPATIBLE WITH THE WEST

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich stirred up some controversy when, in an interview with Sean Hannity, he argued that Western civilization is at war, and to combat our enemies, we need to test every single Muslim to see if they believe in Sharia law. Gingrich said that Sharia is not compatible with the West, so if a Muslim believes in that, they should be deported. However, he is perfectly okay with “Modern Muslims who have given up Sharia, glad to have them as citizens. Perfectly happy to have them next door." Gingrich’s remarks have received much criticism, especially as there are many different interpretations of Sharia, and many Muslims believe in it, while still fighting extremism. Omar Suleiman, a Muslim scholar in Dallas, lashed out at the former House Speaker, saying he believed in “every single tenet of my faith” and said it was because of his faith that he continued to speak out against extremism everywhere.
