“An unspeakable act”. That is how French President Francois Hollande described the attack in Nice. The French city is in mourning after a man drove a truck into a crowd, injuring 202 people and killing 84, 10 of them children. Of those who sustained injuries, 52 received critical injuries. Of those 52, 25 are in a coma now.The man behind the wheel was identified as Mohamed Lahouaiej Bouhel, a 31 year old French-Tunisian resident of Nice. According to the prosecution attorneys, the attack began at 10:45 PM, when Bouhel fired at some police officers and drove off for about 300 meters before the police shot him dead. Upon searching the vehicle, police found handguns, ammunition, and an assault rifle. Authorities also discovered several pertinent documents and the attacker’s cellphone. The investigation is ongoing.
