Oil production is rising all over Algeria, according to a spokesman from Sonatrach. At the Hassi Messaoud, production has increased by 50,000 barrels and at the Ourhoud field, production is up 25,000 barrels. The goal, according to Algeria’s Energy Minister, is to boost output by 30% by 2020. In keeping with that goal, officials at the Hassi Messaoud field have introduced plans to dig anywhere between 32 and 50 wells this year. Algeria’s attempt to boost production is coupled with its desire to move beyond fossil fuels.
