RUSSIAN-SYRIAN CONFLICT INTENSIFIES

Matters in Syria are getting worse. Russian state media reports that a helicopter has been shot down in the war-torn state capital Aleppo. All five crew members were reported dead. According to officials from the Russian Defense Ministry, the helicopter was returning to its base when ground fire from the Idlib Province brought the vehicle down to the ground. Russia’s airstrikes began in 2015, when many believe the Russian government was trying to aid Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. The Assad regime has been embroiled in a five year conflict against a rebel movement.
