BIRMINGHAM BOMBER SEEKS PAROLE

Edwin Blanton Jr. was convicted in 2001 after evading prison for 38 years. The former Ku Klux Klan member was charged with the bombing of a Birmingham church on September 15th, 1963. The attack resulted in the deaths of four young girls. However, Blanton is now seeking parole, appealing to the board to allow him to die a free man. Doug Jones, a former U.S. attorney, does not believe Blanton will be freed. Jones said that Blanton’s attack on “a house of God” and needs to serve the necessary time for his crime. The case was apparently delayed because the FBI had informants in the Klan.
