MAHARASHTRA BRIDGE COLLAPSES

A British era bridge on the Mumbai-Goa highway collapsed late Tuesday night, causing several vehicles and approximately 22 people to fall into the Savitri River below. Two bodies have been recovered so far, and rescue operations are underway to recover the rest. About 80 people from the National Disaster Response Force showed up to help in the rescue efforts. Despite the massive response, no survivors have been found, chiefly because heavy monsoonal rain has caused the Savitri River to swell. Prime Minister Narendra Modi offered his condolences for the accident and extended an offer of help.
