AIRBNB MAKES BANK IN THE OLYMPICS
Anyone who knows anything about booking hotels during massive sporting events knows one thing: it’s very nearly impossible to do so. The millions of fans who are flocking to Rio are not opting for hotel reservations, but rather renting out couches, rooms and homes through Airbnb. The company, which prides itself on its unique home-sharing philosophy is partnering officially with the Olympics, and advertising its alternative accommodations. Leo Tristao, Brazil manager for Airbnb, says that people are not just renting out homes in tourist destinations, resulting in a spread out economic impact.
