ERDOGAN TO U.S.: HIM OR ME
A failed military coup in Turkey on July 15, 2016 led Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan to go on a massive hunt for all those behind the attempted overthrow. While Erdogan was able to capture most of the people who participated in the coup, he has yet to take prisoner the leader of the movement. Cleric Fethullah Gulen has been living in Pennsylvania since 1999, the result of a self-imposed exile. Erdogan told the U.S. to extradite Gulen or risk losing Turkey’s diplomatic partnership. However, Obama has asserted that Gulen would only be extradited if the laws agreed that he must be.
