WALLS BROKEN DOWN AT THE OLYMPICS

Chinese swimmer Fu Yuanhui won Twitter with one sentence. After finishing fourth in the 4x100m medley relay, Yuanhui got out of the pool, clutching her side. When asked how she felt, the swimmer first acknowledged that she had let her teammates down, and then went on to say that her period came the day before, hence her exhaustion. However, she emphasized that that was not an excuse for her less than average swimming. The Internet then exploded with adulation over the Chinese Olympian’s candidness, and the way in which she removed the reticence around a woman’s menstrual cycle.
