HIGH PROFILE DIPLOMAT DEFECTS
Tired of Kim Jong Un’s brutal dictatorship, Thae Yong Ho decided to defect, with his family, to South Korea. Though he is stationed in the United Kingdom, the former North Korean diplomat wanted out of the system. He has been granted protection by South Korea from any retaliation that could come his way. Liberty in North Korea Director of Research and Strategy Sokeel Park said that, especially for high level defectors, death threats and assassination attempts were common. However, Park stressed that this was a unique situation, as Ho could easily be the target of top agents from Pyongyang.
