DOMESTIC SPENDING SPIRALING


Much of the United States’ debt comes from spending on entitlement programs, such as Social Security and healthcare. However, legislators in Congress, when charged to deal with reducing the debt, cut costs from the one piece of the federal budget pie that should not be cut: discretionary spending on domestic and defense programs. This funding has hit a 53 year low and CBO forecasts that it will sink even lower in the next 20 years. In fact, the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) says that we are approaching the point where 100% of taxes will go to entitlement programs.
