MONSANTO WITHDRAWS FROM INDIA

In a move of protest, Monsanto Co has taken back its application to create a new generation of seeds in India. Monsanto would have been obligated to share its seeds with local producers if the application had gone through. This intensified Monsanto’s already rock relationship with India. The two are at odds over how much could be charged for genetically modified seeds. The argument has created a massive loss of revenue for Monsanto. The unprecedented application withdrawal is thought to be an attempt to undercut Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s attempts to attract foreign investment in India.
