YELLEN: RATE HIKES A POSSIBILITY
It happened in December, when interest rates were raised for the first time in a decade, and according to a speech made by Chairwoman Janet Yellen, it could happen again. While some economic data suggested that the economy was growing slowly, Yellen asserted that jobs were being created, and that the economy would continue to grow at a moderate rate. Yellen did not specify the criteria needed for a rate hike, but did say that the hikes should be gradual. Subadra Rajappa, an interest rate strategist, said Yellen was keeping a foot in the door, leaving the option of a rate hike open.
