CALIFORNIA HIGH SPEED RAIL PLANS TO START CONSTRUCTION IN GILROY

California’s high‑speed rail (HSR) project, approved by voters in 2008, has struggled with cost overruns and delays—and is now confronting a major setback in its push toward the Bay Area.

As of mid‑2025, 171 miles of infrastructure in the Central Valley—between Merced and Bakersfield—are under active construction, but no high‑speed track has yet been laid.
