Health officials in Contra Costa County are considering releasing thousands of bacteria-infected mosquitoes to combat a dangerous, invasive species recently detected in Antioch.

The Aedes aegypti, also known as the yellow fever mosquito, has been identified in the city's Harbor Park area. Local agencies have struggled to control the aggressive insects, prompting the Contra Costa Mosquito and Vector Control District to consider an innovative approach: fighting mosquitoes with mosquitoes.
