EX-HEAD OF CHINESE UNIVERSITY SANCTIONED BY US BECOMES VICE INDUSTRY MINISTER

Shan Zhongde, a former head of a Chinese aeronautics university who was previously sanctioned by the Trump administration for his alleged ties with the People's Liberation Army (PLA), has been appointed as a deputy of a ministry responsible for advancing Chinese technological innovation. The State Council, China's cabinet, announced on Friday that Shan, 54, has been named as a vice minister of industry and information technology.
Prior to this appointment, Shan served as the head of Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics starting in June 2020. Later, in November of the same year, he assumed the role of chief of the Communist Party committee at the university. His recent appointment to a high-ranking position within the ministry underscores China's commitment to furthering its technological advancements despite previous sanctions and controversies surrounding individuals with alleged ties to the PLA.
