After a nationwide executive search, Fremont has selected Oakland's former police chief, Floyd Mitchell, to be the city's new top cop.
Mitchell resigned from the Oakland Police Department in December after 18 months on the job. He was hired by now-ousted Oakland Mayor Sheng Thao, who had fired the previous police chief, Leronne Armstrong, as one of her first acts in office. Mitchell came to the Bay Area from Lubbock, Texas.
