IT SPEND FOR AIRLINES INCREASES TO $34 BILLION IN 2023

The aviation industry witnessed an increase in IT spending for both airports and airlines in 2023, reaching approximately $10.8 billion and $34.5 billion, respectively. A significant portion of airport and airline Chief Information Officers (CIOs) anticipate further growth into 2024. Sustainability initiatives have also gained prominence, with industry targets set for carbon reduction and increased regulations on emissions. Insights from research conducted between August and November 2023, based on the perspectives of over 250 senior airline and airport executives, indicate a focus on sustainability and efficiency.

Over half of the airlines and airports surveyed have implemented IT solutions to enhance efficiency across various processes, including check-in, bag tagging, and boarding, thereby optimizing the passenger experience.
