Microsoft (MSFT.O) announced on Wednesday its plans to open its first regional data center in Thailand, marking a significant move to enhance the availability of cloud services in the country. This decision comes shortly after Chief Executive Satya Nadella unveiled investments totaling $1.7 billion in artificial intelligence (AI) and cloud infrastructure in neighboring Indonesia.

The establishment of the data center region will contribute to the expansion of Microsoft's hyperscale cloud services. During an event in Bangkok, Nadella highlighted that the data center will not only provide full Azure capability in Thailand but also offer world-class AI infrastructure through the company's cloud computing platform. Moreover, the Thailand data center is expected to enhance enterprise-grade reliability, performance, and compliance with data residency and privacy standards, further solidifying Microsoft's commitment to supporting the digital transformation efforts of businesses in the region.
