The Sierra Nevada region in Northern California experienced the impact of a powerful blizzard, leading to the closure of highways and ski resorts. By early Monday, the worst of the storm had passed through the area, but forecasters cautioned that additional snowfall was expected in the coming days.

Interstate 80, a major highway running through the Sierra Nevada and connecting California to Nevada, was closed for a significant stretch due to the blizzard. However, by late Monday morning, the highway had reopened to all traffic except for large trucks. Despite the reopening, drivers were required to use chains or snow tires due to hazardous road conditions. Other highways in the region also faced closures or chain requirements. The blizzard brought substantial snowfall to the area, with some locations receiving more than 7 feet (2.1 meters) of snow. Additionally, strong winds exacerbated the already challenging conditions in the Sierra Nevada over the weekend.
