PG&E SAYS POWER COULD BE RESTORED EARLY FOR THOUSANDS IN BAY AREA

Thousands of people in the Bay Area are entering their second day without power, but the outage could end earlier than originally planned. PG&E has indicated that people in parts of the East Bay could have power restored around 4 p.m. Friday instead of around 2 p.m. Saturday as originally planned. Customers in the North Bay could have power restored around 7 p.m. Friday. PG&E's outage website shows areas without power due to high fire risk, including parts of Contra Costa, Alameda, Sonoma and Napa counties.

The utility shut off power to nearly 80,000 customers statewide, including around 6,200 in the East Bay, in what PG&E says is the largest Public Safety Power Shutoff since 2020. PG&E said it shut off the power to prevent power lines from sparking a wildfire amid hot, dry conditions that were expected to be windy. Some people without power have questioned PG&E's decision because it hasn't been windy in some locations.
